Merle has just graduated from a high school in Philadelphia and gone on a graduation trip with her friend, Christie. They are out on a houseboat on Lake Powell in northern Arizona when strange things begin to happen. They are sailing through a narrow passageway between two sheer red rock faces. Merle looks up and sees a frightful black cave. A beam of light shoots from one side of the canyon to the other, lighting up the back of the cave and making a fire breathing dragon appear. In an instant it vanishes.
Is she going blind? Crazy? Before she figures out which, her friend Chistie is leaping up and down point at an approaching ship.
